RYOBI RTS12 10-Inch Table Saw Review

RYOBI RTS12 Table Saw Review

This is our review of the Ryobi RTS12 10-inch Table Saw with Stand.

I’ve been in woodworking long enough to know how valuable owning a good-quality budget table saw can be. Spoiler: Ryobi RTS12 is one of those table saws!

Even before my stint in curtain installation, I used one to redo shelves in my parent’s house. What was supposed to be a 4-hour job with a hand saw took me just under an hour to complete with the table saw. Effortless slicing through wood wasn’t just refreshing but also highly efficient.

That experience is just one of the many reasons why I believe having a 10-inch table saw at home is essential. Its size and strength are perfect for do-it-yourself projects and everyday tasks. Don’t even get me started on its affordability.

Of the countless budget options available, I’ve found the Ryobi RTS12 Table Saw to be an ideal choice for beginners. In this article, you will learn all about this product and what makes it so different from other brands or models. We’ll also be identifying situations when owning one is most valuable.

So, if you’re currently thinking of buying a 10-inch table saw, be sure to read our Ryobi RTS12 review first before making a final decision.

Product Overview

10' table saw with folding stand
  • Integrated on board storage for all accessories
  • Steel roll cage design for added durability and frame strength
  • Powerful 15 Amp motor with blade brake

10-inch table saws are designed to cut through wood more effortlessly. Its trademark characteristic is a wide platform for supporting heftier objects. This way, users have better control when pushing materials through the blade, resulting in incisions with far greater accuracy.

The Ryobi RTS12 may not be the biggest option around, measuring just 36 x 29 inches (length and width). Nevertheless, I still feel this is good enough for ripping through wooden planks in a single go. I’ve had the pleasure of using one on multiple occasions, and I must say, the experience was mostly positive.

Besides the cutting strength, portability was another benefit I enjoyed. The Ryobi RTS12 10-inch Table Saw is easy to carry, making it ideal for users who are constantly on the go. And because it comes with its own stand, not having a dedicated workspace is never an issue.

Let’s learn more by discussing its four key features.

Feature #1: Powerful 15-Amp Motor

When choosing what table saw to buy, motor strength is almost always a primary consideration. That’s because it will greatly determine the types of tasks a tool can do, whether small-scale or large-scale projects.

In particular, the Ryobi RTS12 10-inch Table Saw is powered by a 15-AMP motor, producing speeds of up to 5,000 revolutions per minute (RPM). Looking at sheer numbers alone, this is easily one of the more robust table saws around.

A 5,000-RPM capacity means it’s not only capable of cutting through softwood but also 1-inch plywood and soft steel sheets. This versatility allows you to use it for minor repair works, do-it-yourself projects, or as a secondary device in construction. Anything more demanding would probably cause it to break down.

Nevertheless, the Ryobi RTS12 10-inch Table Saw is ideal for weekend DIYs looking to spend little without sacrificing power.

Feature #2: Integrated On-Board Storage

Don’t you just hate having to move around without a designated space for your table saw accessories? More and more, manufacturers have included simple provisions to make everyone’s life easier. And the integrated onboard storage on the Ryobi RTS12 is just one example.

On it, you’ll find several drawers designed to keep the blade guard, lubrication oil, or any other tools you may have. It’s not exactly spacious, only able to hold a few things at a time, but who’s complaining, right?

I especially like how strategically these are positioned. Since the Ryobi RTS12 10-inch Table Saw is relatively small, each storage space is within arm’s length. No need to constantly crouch down or carry around a tool belt anymore.

This feature is specifically made for those constantly moving from one place to another. Instead of setting up an area each time, it will already serve as your mobile workstation.

Feature #3: Cast Aluminum Tabletop

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the tabletop of this table saw is made out of cast aluminum. It would be unreasonable to expect cast iron parts from a table saw at this price point. But hey, at least it isn’t plastic.

I noticed that the tabletop shakes more than usual when compared with other table saws in this category. You will need to have it placed on a sturdy surface at all times.

Performance-wise, it’s not abysmal. I was still able to control the machine fairly easily, albeit with a few minor errors. However, if you need a table saw that offers close to 100 percent stability and precision, choosing one fabricated out of steel would be better.

In reality, though, it’s hard to expect anything more from a tool that costs less than $200.

Still, the cast aluminum tabletop provides enough support to remain serviceable yet lightweight. It’s also smooth enough for wood to just slide through. This shows that the Ryobi RTS12 10-inch Table Saw is built for portability.

Feature #4: Foldable Stand

Owning a tool that comes with its own foldable stand is extremely convenient. You won’t have to make room on a cluttered work table ever again. Just simply find a nice spot, open up the base, and place the table saw on it.

What’s special about the Ryobi RTS12‘s stand is its ergonomic design. It hardly weighs anything and can be folded to half its original size. I love how it fully collapsed. It will easily fit in the back of a pickup truck or trunk of a larger sedan.

The only downside is that, like the tabletop, this stand is made from aluminum, and it is flimsier when compared with folding stands of competing table saws. The legs are rather slim, and the spots at which the legs fold are structurally weak spots.

In any case, this only highlights the fact that the Ryobi RTS12 10-inch Table Saw really is better suited for hobbyists.

Alternatives To Consider

After going through each of its primary features, there’s no question the Ryobi RTS12 10-inch Table Saw is far from perfect. So if you’re looking for something that is slightly stronger, bigger, and offers greater stability, here are a few alternatives to consider. Still, I made sure to stick only to viable table saw options for beginners.

1. INTRADIN 2701S042 10-Inch Table Saw

On Sale
INTRADIN M1H-ZP3-254 2701S042 10' Table Saw/Stand
  • Powerful 15A motor
  • Features a 10” blade
  • 32-3/5” table height

In terms of price and motor strength, these two are very similar. Both can cut through wood with considerable ease. So newbies planning on using it on the construction site will be very satisfied with its overall power.

What makes the INTRADIN 2701S042 considerably different is its stand. Although not foldable, it’s made predominantly from steel, offering more stability. Especially when cutting through thicker materials. Personally, I found it very useful when used on metal.

2. SKIL TS6307-00 15-Amp Table Saw

SKIL 15 Amp 10 Inch Portable Jobsite Table Saw...
  • RACK AND PINION FENCE RAILS - Ensures fence stays parallel to blade for fast smooth, and accurate cuts
  • INTEGRATED FOLDING STAND - Legs quickly fold in to provide portability and convenient storage
  • PARALLEL BLADE ALIGNMENT - Available micro-adjustment of blade so that it is parallel to rip fence and miter slot

Although a lot more expensive, the SKIL TS6307-00 15-AMP Table Saw is designed to yield accurate cuts. Rack and pinion fence rails, coupled with parallel blade alignment capacity, help position the workpiece better, even at acute angles.

I’ve only used this on a couple of occasions, but I can certainly vouch for its user-friendliness.

Just remember that it’s slightly smaller than the Ryobi RTS12 10-inch Table Saw. So, instead of working on large plywood, cut it up into smaller wooden planks first. Doing that will allow you to maximize the tool better.

The third item on our Ryobi table saw review comes from Goplus, which is a combination of our first two alternatives.

I really like it because of its heavy-duty steel stand. It, too, is sturdy and provides stability even when placed on uneven terrains. I was still able to cut through hardwood with relative ease.

The miter gauge is also easily adjustable for cross-cutting. Not a lot of table saws offer this flexibility, which is good news for serious woodworkers. Slicing at different angles will only widen what the Goplus 10-inch Table Saw can do for you.

The main selling point of the DeWALT DWE7485 Table Saw is its compactness. It packs a lot of punch in such a small frame, yielding maximum speeds of 5,800 revolutions per minute (RPM). This makes it ideal for high-intensity projects.

Just take note that this doesn’t come with its own stand. So, when moving around the job site, you’ll need to make sure there is enough space for it at all times.

The Final Cut

Now that we’ve come to the end of today’s table saw review, we hope you learned something new about the Ryobi RTS12 10-inch Table Saw. In a way, I understood what value it possibly brings for beginners.

Overall, it doesn’t offer the most stability or accuracy. However, because of its 15-AMP motor, this tool can still cut through a wide variety of materials, including wood and soft metals. Not to mention be brought almost anywhere.

Buyers not looking to spend much without sacrificing performance will see this as a good deal. If given the opportunity, I would recommend the Ryobi RTS12 10-inch Table Saw as a starting tool for newbies on their woodworking journey.

It provides a lot of different features, yet it won’t be too complicated to operate, either.
